| Hooper and Brandreth have 'Arturo Gavilán' as Capablanca's opponent. He was another player (perhaps a relative), but it seems certain that Capablanca's opponent was Dr. Antonio de los Reyes Gavilan, since he is given as 'Dr. Gavilán' in Diario de la Marina (23 Sep. 1901, p.4; 24 Sep. 1901, p.4; 10 Oct. 1901, p.4) but 'Sr. Gavilán' in the 12 Oct. 1901 issue (p.4). The title 'Dr' is often attached to Antonio's name, but not Arturo. |
