| The match was for the first to win 11 games and was already underway when reported in the 10 Nov. 1877 issue of the Illustrated London News (p.462). By the report in the 29 Dec. 1877 issue (p.631), the score was +8-6=0 for Miss Rudge. Then it seems to have progressed very slowly as the score was reported as +9-9=0 in the 23 Mar. 1878 issue (p.279) and was finally reported as being abandoned at +10-10=0 in the 22 June 1878 issue (p.591). I will take the end date to be in June 1878, though the last game may have been played any time between late March and mid-June. |
