Event table notes

Event data
Place: Blue Lick
Start date: 6 Aug. 1847
End date: 14 Aug. 1847

Notes:
Stanley in the American Chess Magazine says only that Beattie 'came out even' with Raphael. Since Beattie lost heavily to Dudley, who in turn lost to Raphael, omitting the Beattie-Raphael contest would severely distort the assessment of relative strengths. I don't have any indication of the number of games played between them, but the other pairings at this 'tournament' were of 13, 26 and 20-30 games, so I conservatively guess at 12 games. I give the dates of the Blue Lick Tournament, 6-14 Aug. 1847 (see American Chess Magazine, 1847, p.182,237).
