| Hilbert (Writings in Chess History, p.50) quotes the Montreal Daily Witness which says that of 2 even games between Zukertort and Ascher played on 14 Feb. 1884, Ascher won one. Hilbert (p.54) also quotes Zukertort himself from a letter written in Apr. 1884, in which Zukertort says he played 'a few' games even against Ascher, of which Ascher won one and drew one. The Quebec Morning Chronicle of 13 Mar. 1884 (p.4) says that Ascher won one and drew one out of five even games against Zukertort (so +3-1=1 for Zukertort). |
