Start date: 26 July 1851
End date: Aug. 1851

Notes:
Hooper and Whyld (both editions), Barcza, and Giffen give +4-1=3 for Buckle; Sunnucks gives +4-3=1 in one place (p.67) and +4-3 in another (p.301). Staunton (in The Chess Tournament, p.377, and in the Illustrated London News, 16 Aug. 1851, p.219), Sergeant and Golombek give +4-3=1. Staunton (in the Chess Player's Chronicle, 1851, v.12, p.281) and La Grande Storia degli Scacchi gives +4-3. Hilbert discusses both options (+4-3 or +4-3=1 and gives sources for both). Tomlinson gives the start date as 26 July 1851 and a combination of his account of the match and that in the Chess Player's Chronicle suggests that it was finished in early Aug. 1851.
