| Burden gave Green a 3 game head start, so the official result was 9-3 for Green, but in games played it was 6-3 for Green. The Era of 4 May 1862 (p.14) gives a result of 5-3 for Green, which without the 3-point handicap was actually 3-2 for Burden. I presume, therefore, that this match started in Apr. 1862. The result, 9-3 for Green, is reported in the June 1862 issue of the Chess Player's Chronicle (p.168), but the Era of 1 June 1862 (p.5) gives 8-3 for Green. |
