| The Chess Player's Chronicle (1856, new ser. vol.4, p.127) and Hooper and Whyld give +4-0 for Williams. The Chess Player (1852, vol.2, p.38) gives +4-0=1. The Chess Player's Chronicle says that this and the Williams-Mongredien match took place at the end of 1851 and the beginning of 1852. The report in The Chess Player appears to suggest that the Williams-Medley match came after the Williams-Mongredien match, but Bell's Life in London (11 Jan. 1852) says that the Williams-Medley match finished first. I guess that it finished in Jan. 1852. Spinrad gives date as 1851. |
