| The Montreal Gazette of 5 Oct. 1887 (p.2) gives the score as +5-1=2 for Wurm. There is a possibility of confusion with the match mentioned in the New Orleans Daily Picayune of 17 Feb. 1891 (and the Newark Sunday Call of 22 Feb. 1891) in which Wurm is reported to have beaten Orchard 5-3, two years earlier. A report in the Daily Picayune (New Orleans) of 17 Feb. 1891 says that their 1889 match was the only match Orchard ever lost, but the Newark Sunday Call of 22 Feb. 1891 disputes that claim, saying that Wurm had won three previous matches. |
