| Notes: |
| This comes from a letter by G.H.D. Gossip in the International Chess Magazine of June 1888 (p.171). Gossip may not have been a completely reliable source, especially since he was not present, but only heard this result from locals in San Francisco some months later. He also claims that Redding won 2 of 5 games against Zukertort during the latter's visit in 1884, but other sources make it clear that Zukertort won those games 5-0, Redding putting up tough resistance in 2 of them. I am including von der Lasa - Marshall here, but with some reservations. |
