| A letter by Edge dated 9 July gives +2-1 for Morphy against Owen; another letter dated 6 Aug. 1858 gives +4-1 for Morphy; Edge's 'Exploits' (p.200) gives +4-1; Bell's Life in London of 22 Aug. 1858 (p.3) gives +4-1 for Morphy; the Chess Monthly of June 1859 (p.198) gives +4-1=0 for Morphy; Spinrad gives 4-1 from the New York Times of 21 Oct. 1858. Lawson and Sarah's Morphy website say that the first 3 games were played on 3 July 1858, and the other two later (after 9 July, presumably). |
