| The Schachzeitung of 1848 (p.305) prints a letter from Bledow dated 7 July 1843, saying that Buckle completely defeated 'Bessel'. I use a soft result of 1-0 to represent this. I will guess that this encounter took place earlier in 1843. I am also guessing that 'Bessel' was Max Bezzel, though a biography of the latter in the Deutsche Schachzeitung of Jan. 1872 (pp.1-6) does not mention him being in Berlin in 1843. |
