Event table notes

Event data
Place: London, England
Start date: 25 July 1862
End date: 5 Aug. 1862

Notes:
Played after the London 1862 tournament. The Era of 27 Jul. 1862 (p.5) gives the result so far as +1-0=0 for Dubois, so it started in the last few days of July 1862. Tim Harding suggests that 25 Jul. 1862 is the likely start date. The 10 Aug. 1862 issue of the Era (p.5) says that the last game was played 'on Tuesday last', which I take to mean 5 Aug. 1862. Feenstra Kuiper (Hundert Jahre Schachzweikampf, p.131) gives a result +2-2 for Dubois against Paulsen, and Di Felice includes this result also (p.37). It appears to come from a report in the Era of 3 Aug. 1862 (p.13), but a correction was printed in the 10 Aug. 1862 issue (p.5) to say that it referred to Dubois' match with Steinitz, not Paulsen. Thus, I do not include the spurious Dubois-Paulsen match. La Nouvelle Régence (Sept. 1862, p.280) also gives this spurious 2-2 result for Dubois and Paulsen.
