| Notes: |
| The Aug. 1874 issue of the Chess Player's Chronicle says that this match took place 'last month', so I presume this to mean July 1874 (though it might have been June, if the Aug. issue was written in July). This issue of the Chess Player's Chronicle (p.115) also gives a match game between Owen and Skipworth dated 20 July 1874, but it could have been either from this match or the subsequent one. I am only guessing that the location might have been Leamington, because the following match between Owen and Skipworth was at least finished in Leamington, but that was after a pause for the Counties Chess Association tournament in Birmingham. Sergeant gives the date as Sept. 1874. |
