| The Mar. 1887 issue of British Chess Magazine (p.104) gives the combined result of 4 matches between Vazquez and Carvajal as +17-16=2. The Oct. 1886 issue gave the combined result of 3 matches between them as +10-10=2. This suggests that the former result includes the latter and there was a 4th match with result +7-6=0 for Vazquez. This is confirmed by the 15 Jan. 1887 issue of the Brooklyn Chess Chronicle (p.57). I will guess that it finished late in 1886, though it may have ended early in Jan. 1887. It was reported to have been started already in the 15 Sep. 1886 issue of the Brooklyn Chess Chronicle. |
