| The Chess Player's Chronicle of 1845 (v.6, p.192) has a letter signed by 'J.B. Hoffmeister'. The Hampshire Telegraph and Sussex Chronicle of 30 Jan. 1832 (p.4) has 'J.M. Hoffmeister'. The latter seems to be correct since a Dix Noonan Webb auction web page has a sale of a medal belonging to John M. Hoffmeister of the Royal Navy, born in Portsmouth, so clearly the chess player. |
