Notes: |
Four games had been played by 26 Oct., so it began in Oct. 1899; the main tournament was finished by 21 Dec., but not yet by 14 Dec. 1899. The reports in the Brooklyn Daily Eagle state that Koehler defaulted to Schmidt, Raubitschek and Halpern, and Baird defaulted to Hanham, Marshall, Koehler and Roething. Results of the games Hanham-Koehler, Marshall-Koehler, Halpern-Raubitschek, Roething-Weeks and Simonson-Delmar were not found explictly in reports, but could be inferred from statements about the final results, though it is possible that some of these games were defaulted (Simonson-Delmar was definitely played). Simonson must have beaten Delmar for Halpern to have tied Delmar for 2nd place. Roething-Weeks must have been at least a draw, but probably a win for Roething, since the report of 20 Dec. 1899 says that Marshall came 6th. If Roething had lost to Weeks, Marshall would have been equal 4th-5th. If Roething drew Weeks, Marshall would have been equal 4th-6th. If Roething beat Weeks, Marshall would have been equal 5th-6th. I have assumed the latter. There was also a play-off match for 2nd place, but as this went into 1900, I have recorded it separately here. The Marshall Career web page does not indicate most of the forfeited games, and has Rudolph Raubitschek in this event, but the Brooklyn Daily Eagle or 26 Oct. 1899 has 'Robert Raubitschek'. |
