Event table notes

Event data
Name: Nottingham Mechanics Institute Team Match
Place: Nottingham
Start date: 18 Oct. 1882
End date: 18 Oct. 1882

Notes:
The identities of some of the players is uncertain. The report in the Chess Player's Chronicle has 'C Lipman' but this is certainly an error for 'C. Sipman'. It also has 'E Stevenson' and I know of no other mention of a player of that name at Nottingham. The more well known player was A. St. John Stevenson (or A.J. Stevenson), and there may also have been a W.H. Stevenson. Perhaps it was actually one of these who played here. Also, there is a 'Sanders' who is very likely to have been E.J. Sander. The player named 'Ward' was not William George Ward, of Nottingham, who died in 1878.
