Event table notes

Event data
Name: 6th American Chess Congress
Place: New York
Start date: 25 Mar. 1889
End date: 27 May 1889

Notes:
The first game in the second round, if drawn, did not count in the official score and was replayed. La Grande Storia degli Scacchi and Graeme Cree do not show these uncounted draws, shown by Gaige, Di Felice and Forster. Judd won his first round game against Showalter by default, as did Delmar over Bird. Winter cites Steinitz to the effect that Mason lost to D.G. Baird 'by time', but in fact by drunkenness. Judd lost a game to Chigorin when he refused to continue the game after a dispute. Chigorin lost a game to Mason on time as a result of the same dispute. Both games are still counted here as played.
