| This was a 24-player knockout tournament, won by Bier, with many additional matches to determine the prize order, including a second chance at first prize. The tournament rules say that in each pairing the players could decide between themselves how many games they wanted to play, possibly one, but possibly more than one. Since the numbers are not indicated, I count them all as 1-0. In the first round, Jessen - Nettelmann was not played, since Nettelmann did not appear; in the second round, Bier - Nettelmann was not played for the same reason, and Wertheimber - Cohn was counted as a loss for both since neither appeared; in the third round, Holtermann - Wertheimber was not played; and in the fourth round, neither Jessen - Holtermann nor Oppert - Cohn were played. Of course, games that were not played are not included here for rating purposes. In the fourth round, Nissen played Ahrensen, who had not been in the original list of participants. |
