Event table notes

Event data
Name: Aberdeen City Meeting and Tournament
Place: Aberdeen
Start date: 26 Mar. 1859
End date: May 1859

Notes:
This was a 32-player knockout tournament. There appear to have been two players named 'Gordon'. In the first round, the scores of the Speid-Pithie match and the Gordon-Geddes match are given as 0-0. I presume this is C.S. Gordon who went on to the subsequent rounds, since the other lost to Thomson, and this Gordon is listed on the left like the other match winners. In the second round Speid won against Lamb by default (and so made it to the third round without playing a single game!). In the fourth round C.S. Gordon defaulted against W. Speid when the score stood +2-0 for the latter. Since the report on the last two rounds appeared in the 21 May 1859 issue of the Illustrated London News, I am guessing that it ended in May, though it might have ended in April, since it began at the end of March.
