Event table notes

Event data
Name: 2nd Counties Chess Association Meeting - 2nd Class Tournament
Place: Malvern
Start date: 7 Aug. 1871
End date: 12 Aug. 1871

Notes:
This was an 8-player all-play-all tournament. The Chess Players' Quarterly Chronicle (Oct. 1871, p.344) gives Boorne 6.5 points and Haselden 1 point, but the Malvern Advertiser (12 or 19 Aug. 1871) gives Boorne 6 points and Haselden 2 points. In order for the total to add up to a full crosstable of 28 games, I presume Boorne got 6.5 and Haselden got 2. The Chess Players' Quarterly Chronicle says that Haseldon 'had one or two games scored against' him 'through absence or resignation', but there is no indication of who he defaulted to. The Chess Players' Quarterly Chronicle (Oct. 1871, p.344) has 'Simpson' at this event, while the Illustrated London News of 19 Aug. 1871 (p.163) has 'G.F. Empson', and the Malvern Advertiser of 12 Aug. 1871 has 'J.F. Empson'.
