| Notes: |
| Staunton reports (Illustrated London News, 23 Mar. 1850, p.195) that in this second match between Bird and Hughes, Bird won every game. I do not know how many games were played, but 2 games are given in the Chess Player's Chronicle (1850, v.11, pp.136-139) so I use a soft result of 2-0 for Bird. I am guessing that this is the same 'Hughes' as the one who played at Manchester 1857 and Birmingham 1858. |
