| The result is given in the 5 Feb. 1874 issue of the Watertown Re-Union, so I am guessing that the match finished early in Feb. 1874. Clearly this was not the later match between the same players for the championship of New England, which took place in May 1874. The Spirit of the Times of 21 Feb. 1874 gives the result as +9-0=1; other sources give +8-0=1. |
