Event table notes

Event data
Name: 15th Counties Chess Association Meeting - Handicap Tournament
Place: Hereford
Start date: 3 Aug. 1885
End date: 8 Aug. 1885

Notes:
In the second round, Lewis was credited with a win over J. Pollock, but the note in the Book of the Counties' Chess Association (p.12) says that Pollock 'resigned', which I take to mean that he did not play. In the third round Burt beat Lambert 'by default' and Raymond beat Job 'by default'. It is not clear how 'resigned' is different from 'by default', but I will assume that none of these games were actually played. There was no time for a fourth round for a play-off between Burt, Blake and Raymond.
