| This was a 3-way match, six games per pairing. The report in the Sydney Mail and New South Wales Advertiser of 15 Jul. 1871 (p.627) says that Smith give Knight odds to the other two, but the issue of 22 Jul. 1871 (p.651) corrects this to say that Smith gave Knight to Brown and Pawn and Two Moves to Lea. It is clear from games appearing in later issues that Lea gave Brown Pawn and Move odds. |
