Event table notes

Event data
Name: Berliner Schachgesellschaft Tournament
Place: Berlin
Start date: Mar. 1865
End date: June 1865

Notes:
This was intended to be a 22-player double-round all-play-all, though four players withdrew early on: Alexi, Lindner, von Schenk and Wette. Renette and Zavatarelli do not give the full crosstable, but say that Neumann won with 34/34, which presumably means that he scored 2-0 against all 17 remaining opponents. This is supported by the statement of Renette and Zavatarelli on p.236 regarding the next Berliner Schachgesellschaft Tournament in 1866 that 'the results of players giving their forfeit were crossed off'. The Apr. 1865 issue of the Neue Berliner Schachzeitung (p.117) says that draws count as half a point each. Schallopp and Knorre were battling for second and third prizes, followed by Bergell and Lichtenstein. Schulten also left before finishing, but won his one game against Knorre. I record here only the results of the pairings for which I know the score.
