The personal web site of Andreas West has date of birth of a Johann Wilhelm Schulten as 3 Jan. 1821, in Ratingen, citing a record in the Zivilstandsregister of the Bürgermeisterei Ratingen (Germany). His English Wikipedia page also has 1821. Chessgames.com has date of birth as about 1814, based apparently on birth and death records of a Johann Wilhelm Schulten born in Dusseldorf and died 25 Dec. 1875 at age 61 years, 9 months, reported by 'Tabanus'. It is not clear which birth record is the right one, but I will guess that Tabanus has it right.
