Event table notes

Event data
Name: Hilversum Club Tournament
Place: Hilversum
Start date: Nov. 1893
End date: Dec. 1893

Notes:
This was a 25-player handicap knockout tournament. Players were paired with their classes as much as possible so as few games as possible would be played with the handicaps. Players of the lower classes were given a bye where that was necessary. The first 5 listed players were in the 1st class, the next 9 in the 2nd class, and the rest in the 3rd class. The actual handicaps between classes are not stated, but I will guess that they were the standard Pawn and Move for a class difference of one (as it was in another similar tournament in Hilversum in May 1893), and Pawn and Two Moves for a class difference of two. C. Alders had a bye in the first round; Fransen had a bye in the second round; Westenberg had a bye in the third round. At that point only 4 players remained. The two winners in the fourth round, J.H. Peet and Westenberg played in the fifth round for the first two prizes, J.H. Peet winning. Also, the two losers in the fourth round, Fransen and de Man, played for third prize in the fifth round, Fransen winning.
