| Notes: |
| Each pair of players played from the same position after 24 moves. The first 24 moves were played by the Café and the Circle as consulting teams on 7 Jan. 1846. When they attempted to resume the game on 21 Jan., a mistake was made in announcing the next chosen move, and an argument ensued. It was decided to continue the game in separate games by the players in pairs. Normally, I would not include such a result, since it was partly a consultation game, but it does reflect the abilities of the players involved, and it is desirable to include the result of such an early 'tournament', since we don't have many results for some of these players. Ralf Hemberger suggests that it was probably P.F. Laroche here and not J.A. Laroche (Laroche de Bayonne), since the latter had just left Paris for Bayonne, according to Delannoy in the 15 Jan. 1846 issue of Le Palamède (p.18), and only returned to Paris in October 1846, as reorted in the 15 Oct. 1846 issue of Le Palamède (p.474), while P.F. Laroche was at the dinner held by the Cercle des Echecs on 19 Feb. 1846, as reported in the 15 Feb. 1846 issue of Le Palamède (p.88). |
