Notes:
The New Zealand Times of 13 Dec. 1895 (p.2) has 'L.B. Smith'. The Australian Chess Annual of 1896 (p.114) says that he was 15 years old at the time of a match between the Devonport and Glen Var Chess Clubs in Auckland, which took place in July 1894. Thus, he was born in 1878 or 1879.
