I am guessing that the 'E.G. Spears' listed in the Hastings and St. Leonard's Observer of 3 Sept. 1904 as playing for the Midland Counties Chess Union is the 'A.G. Spears' who played for Yorkshire in the Lancashire-Yorkshire match of 1899, as given by Forster. Steve Mann also has 'E.G. Spears' in the Lancashire-Yorkshire match of 1900. Michael Kühl has sent me full name and dates of birth and death from ancestry.com.
