| Name given with various spellings, e.g. 'Rumchunder Kurranchicer' in the 26 Dec. 1858 issue of the Era (p.5.), 'Roumchunder Kurranchicer' in the 29 Jan. 1859 issue of the New York Clipper, 'Kurrl Ramchunder Kurnladiker' in the 2 Aug. 1857 issue of the Sunday Times (supplement, p.4), 'Hurri Ramchunder' in the Chess Player's Magazine of Apr. 1866 (p.100). The latter source says that he is 'now about forty-five years of age', so I give his year of birth approximately as 1821. Is this the 'Rowchund Chitty Ramchunder' mentioned in the Westminster Papers of May 1869 (p.4)? |
