Event table notes

Event data
Name: City of London - Universities Match
Place: London, England
Start date: 20 Mar. 1888
End date: 20 Mar. 1888

Notes:
Harold Jacobs (City of London) won by default against the player listed as 'E.M. Osborn' or 'Osborne' (Universities), who was absent. The latter is probably an error for E.B. Osborn. The initials of some of the players as listed in the Morning Post (21 Mar. 1888, p.5), the Cambridge Review (26 Apr. 1888, p.288), and the British Chess Magazine (May 1888, pp.225-226) are suspect, though the three are mainly in agreement. For example, there could be errors in initials of 'T. Durrant', 'J.H. Clark', 'R.F. Lowe', and 'T. Tillyard', but I am not certain, so have left them as written. I am guessing that 'J. Marriott' is John Towle Marriott, of Nottingham.
