| Forster gives date of death as 'c1912'. There were three members of the Liverpool Club with the name 'James Lister'. One became a member in 1843 and another in 1847. Then a 'Lister, James, Junr.' became a member in 1885. The James Lister who was vice-president of the Liverpool Club in 1882 and president in 1883 and 1885 was presumably not this third junior James Lister, who was not a member in time. However, Forster gives his date of birth as 1830, so he would have been only about 13 years old when the first James Lister became a member of the Liverpool Club. This first James Lister is probably the one who appears in the Chess Player's Chronicle and La Palamède in the years 1845 and 1846. The James Lister who was active in the early 1880s was thus probably the second one, who became a member of the Liverpool Club in 1847 at about age 17. |
