Notes:
Walker gives his name as 'M. Guillaume Le Breton Deschapelles'. Deschapelles retired from play around either 1821 or 1824 but reappeared to play in 1836, 1841 (see Le Palamède, 2nd series, v.1, p.26, 92), 1842 and 1846. In 1841 he was the president of the Cercle des Echecs in Paris, but Général Guingret took over in 1842. A report by 'J.G.' in the Liverpool Mercury of 31 May 1839 says Deschapelles 'is now sixty-seven', which would put his birth in 1781 or 1782; Gaige gives his birth date as 7-03-1780.
