The Illustrated London News (11 Aug. 1877, p.143) has 'Rev. C. Pierpoint', and Land and Water (4 Aug. 1877, p.97) and the Birmingham Gazette (31 July 1877) have 'Rev. C.R. Pierpoint'. According to Tim Harding (personal communication) there is no record of a 'Rev. C. Pierpoint', so the safest bet at the moment seems to be that this is an error for 'Rev. E. Pierpoint'.
