Biographical data
Name: Brown, Frank
Born: 1863
Died: 26 June 1917

Notes:
Sergeant refers to him as 'Frank Brown, of Dudley'. Tim Harding has sent me genealogicial and census information showing that Frank Brown was the brother of Frederick Brown, and was two years older. According to C.N. 9795, the Field of 25 Oct. 1879 says that Frank Brown was 16 years old, while the Chess Player's Chronicle of 1 Aug. 1879 gives his age as 15. This suggests that he was born in 1863, perhaps between July and September. Harding and Gerard Killoran have established from the British Chess Magazine (1919) and from probate records that Frank Brown died 26 June 1917. While he would only have been 12 or 13 years old in early 1876, it appears likely that it was, in fact, this Frank Brown who played for Dudley against Stourbridge in that year, as well as against Birmingham in Feb. 1878.
