Notes:
The Illustrated London News has a 'Humphreys' of the St. James Club in London (1 Jan. 1870, p.30; 21 May 1870, p.539), and a 'Humphries' playing for the City of London Club (6 Aug. 1870, p.155). The Westminster Papers (1 Aug. 1870, p.55) has 'E.E. Humphreys' in this event, so I presume all refer to the same person. The Era of 18 Jun. 1871 (p.14) has a 'Humphries' playing for the City of London Club. The City of London Chess Magazine of Aug. 1874 (p.163) has 'E. Humphries' playing at the City of London Club, and the Field of 18 Jul. 1874 has 'E.E. Humphries' in the same context. Gaige has a 'Humphreys, George Thomas', presumably a different person.
