Notes:

Steve Mann gives year of birth as 1828 or 1829 and year of death as 1908 or 1909 (his death was registered in the first quarter of 1909). I am guessing that the 'Sydney-Smith' or 'Sydney Smith' who played for the British Chess Club against Paris in 1891 and 1893 was a different person.
