Notes:
Di Felice gives the name of the player at the New York Chess Club Tournament of 1886 as 'Fitch, Charles Lewis', but Hilbert and Lahde (p.88) mention a player named J.H. Fitch as a member of the Manhattan Chess Club in 1890. My guess is that these are the same player and that Di Felice has misidentified a player listed by last name only, though I could be wrong. The Brooklyn Daily Standard-Union of 24 Feb. 1894 gives the player in the New York State Chess Association general tournament of 1894 as 'A. Fitch', so which Fitch is which is not clear. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of 23 Feb. 1890 and the Columbia Chess Chronicle of 7 Mar. 1889 give 'J.H.A. Fitch'.
