The Chess Player's Chronicle has correspondence from 'E.C., Halifax' as early as Nov. 1841 (vol.2, p.45). Staunton gives name as 'E.C. Cronhelm' in the Illustrated London News of 7 Oct. 1865 (p.347), but neither Gaige nor Steve Mann give a middle initial.
