The Chess Monthly of Dec. 1882 (p.98), the Daily News of 22 Oct. 1894 (p.3), the Field of 27 Oct. 1894 (p.660), the British Chess Magazine of June 1896 (p.230), and the Sunday Times of 10 May 1896 (p.8) have 'H.J. Coburn'. It seems likely that this is the 'Coburn' who played at the City of London Club in the early 1870s. Listed variously as 'Colburn', 'Coburn' and 'Coborn' in Land and Water in 1873, and 'Coburn' in the Field in 1873. Could this be the 'H. Colborne' who was playing in Hastings in 1883 or 1884?
