Biographical data
Name: Campbell, Joseph Graham
   Also known as: J.G.C.
Born: May 1830
Died: 2 Jan. 1891

Notes:
Gaige, Hooper and Whyld, Winter and La Grande Storia degli Scacchi give name as 'Joseph Graham Campbell'. Winter indicates that MacDonnell gave his name incorrectly as 'James G. Campbell'. Sergeant also gives the latter. Staunton (The Chess Tournament, p.lix; Chess Player's Chronicle, 1851, p.282) has a J. Campbell of Paris as a subscriber of the Great Tournament of 1851, but that could be John Campbell? Winter notes that the Chess Monthly gave date of death as 02-01-1891. Sergeant says that his date of death 'is variously given as' 31-12-1890 and 01-01-1891. Walker in Bell's Life in London (28 Mar. 1868, p.12) has 'H.G. Campbell' playing in 1855, but this must be an error for J.G. Campbell.
