Notes:

Gaige gives date of birth as 1835. Steve Mann gives date of birth as 1834 and date of baptism as 02-11-1834. I am assuming that the 'S. Ward' who was at the West Yorkshire Chess Association annual meeting in May 1866 (Illustrated London News, 9 June 1866, p.571) is the 'Seth Ward' who was at the Bradford 1888 tournament. Gaige also has a younger Seth Ward, 1870-1912, who would have been about 18 in 1888? I am also tentatively identifying the player named 'Ward' in the West Yorkshire Chess Association 2nd Class tournament of 1861 as the elder Seth Ward.
