Notes:
The Illustrated London News of 11 June 1870 (p.619) has 'J.Y. Stokoe', which I presume to be a misprint for 'T.Y. Stokoe'. The 11 May 1878 issue (p.446) has 'Stockoe'. Stokoe's great grandson, also named Thomas Stokoe, has given a birth date of 7 Jan. 1831 and a death date of 30 June 1905. Steve Mann agrees with the death date but has reasonably convincing evidence that his birth date was 5 Jan. 1832, rather than 7 Jan. 1831.
