Notes:
Sarah's Morphy website gives birth date 09-09-1802. Sergeant gives birth date 02-09-1800. Gaige and La Stratégie of 15 Dec. 1872 (p.354) give birth date 12-09-1800. La Stratégie of 15 Nov. 1872 (p.321) says that he died at age 73, which would put his year of birth at 1798 or 1799. Frederic Fournier has sent me a copy of his birth record, which shows that he was born on the 12th day of vendemiaire, in the year 9 of the republic, according to the revolutionary calendar; this corresponds to 4 Oct. 1800 in the Gregorian calendar, since in 1800 vendemiaire began on 23 Sept. (Gregorian). Golombek gives death date 29-10-1873. Sarah's Morphy website gives death date 09-10-1872. Gaige and La Strat&eacuge;gie of 15 Dec. 1872 (p.353) give death date 29-10-1872. Sergeant, the Westminster Papers of 1 Dec. 1872 (vol.5, p.111) and the Huddersfield College Magazine of Jan. 1873 (vol.1, p.75) give death date 25-10-1872. The death certificate of de Saint-Amant shows 28-10-1872 as his date of death. Staunton, in the Chess Player's Chronicle (1844, v.5, p.313, 317) gives name as 'C.F.J. St Amant'. Dominique Thimognier gives, in CN 12073, a thorough analysis of his birth and death dates and his name as it appears in official records and other contemporary sources.
